Q: Basically, I am a jealous guy as I always feel lousy whenever I know of my colleagues doing better than me either in getting better sales results, receiving higher commissions or being showered with praises from my boss.
In recent times, this jealous feeling seems to get more intense and frequent. This is not doing me any good as it makes me feels very lousy and dampens my morale. What can I do to overcome this?
A: This is usually caused by poor self-esteem. People with this do not pride themselves with what they already have but prefer to look outside to compare with others. If this continues for a longer time, it can endanger your overall attitude towards life. When you have high self-esteem, you will feel a lot better as you become grateful and thankful for what you already have. It has nothing to do with anyone, but you.
Replace negative mental chattering going on in your head. It can be anything from “I am not good. I am stupid or I am unlucky” to something positive, like “I am good or I am more capable than they are”, etc.
The next very important thing to do is to count your blessings. Take stock of the many good things you already have. This can be a good life, good health or good family. They all deserve your gratitude.
Learn to reframe; always see everything in the positive. Even when things seem negative, find a way to see the silver lining in them. Mix around with positive people. This is indeed a powerful daily practice you can indulge in as this can generate positive vibes and good energy that will make you feel good about yourself.
Finally, loving yourself is perhaps the most important of them all. When you do this, you can become kind and compassionate and happiness will come your way.
