Q: I would have jumped into the sales profession long ago if it had not been for the ‘sales tricks’ I dislike that are used by a number of sales people; like deceitfully painting a rosy picture of the
product, fabricating ridiculous reasons to make people buy, promising them ‘the moon and the skies’ and many gimmicks without any conscience or guilt. I simply cannot get myself to do any of these as my strict upbringing prevents me from doing so. But deep inside me, I am very impressed with the sales career as it gives me the tremendous opportunity to share something good with people I get to meet all over the world. What can you enlighten me to help make a wise career decision?
A: The sales profession attracts many people but not many will turn out to be extraordinary sales people. The extraordinary ones are special as they are usually guided by a set of strict beliefs and discipline to deliver high quality service with integrity too that keeps customers happy at every part of the selling process. So, sales people with their ‘sales tricks’ will not last long in their career.
If you were to choose to be an extraordinary instead of being an ordinary sales person, you would never have the agenda of making money at all costs and means. Instead, you will have the customers’ interests at all times; selling and speaking the truth about the products on how they can serve them well, even telling them not to buy if they do not have any need for them! Not only will you succeed but you will enjoy long lasting success too.
